Report from the Board (April 2010)


The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held 06 April 2010.  The following matters were discussed:

BOARD EDUCATION

Strategic Directions/PlanMrs. Ruest presented the Operational Plans for Strategic Directions, which the Board of Directors approved.

CORPORATE SISTER LIAISON’S REPORT

Parks Canada Recognition of RHSJsSister Cuddihy indicated that this event honouring the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph at the Mother House Chapel in Montreal was held in late March.

ADMINISTRATION REPORT

Mrs. Ruest’s report covered:  Hospital Service Accountability Agreement (H-SAA) Update, and Census information.  Also discussed were:

Ontario Budget – Appended to Mrs. Ruest’s report were health sector highlights of the Ontario Budget.  It is uncertain whether the 1.5 percent increase in hospital base funding will translate into dollars for our organization.  Funding announcements for Long-term Care are not expected for several weeks.  It is anticipated that the legislation to freeze non-bargained employees’ compensation structures to 24 March 2010 levels will be implemented. 

Management Goals and Priorities – Mrs. Ruest reviewed the progress on the Fourth Quarter Priorities.  The recommended Annual Organizational Goals for 2010-11 will be included in the May Report from Administration.

Retirement - Mrs. St. Louis, Resident Care Coordinator of Complex Continuing Care, has requested to retire as of 01 June 2010.  A successor for Mrs. St. Louis will be hired.

Father Mark Miller – Father Mark Miller will speak to the Centre’s staff and community partners on the morning of 07 May 2010 about “End-of-Life Decisions”.  During the afternoon he will speak with parish Priests, and he will join them for dinner that evening for the Priests’ Appreciation Dinner.

COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING, FINANCE AND PERSONNEL RELATIONS COMMITTEE

Management Fiduciary Statement – The Board of Directors accepted the Management Fiduciary Statement for the month February 2010 and referred it to the Members of the Corporation for information.

Financial Statements – There have been no significant changes on the Balance Sheets.   Both operations are on budget.  The Board of Directors approved the Financial Statements for the period ended 28 February 2010 as presented.

Appointment of Auditor – The Board of Directors recommended to the Members of the Corporation the appointment of the firm KMPMLLP for the 2010-11 fiscal year.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES – The Education Calendar for April 2010 was circulated to the Board of Directors for information.
