Report from the Board (June 2010)

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held 01 June 2010.  The following matters were discussed:

PRESENTATIONS

Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario (HAAO) - On behalf of the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario (HAAO), Mrs. Greffe presented Mrs. Ruest with the book “To Bring Comfort and Hope” which commemorates the HAAO’s Centennial.  The book features a summary of the Association’s history, including the establishment of our Region 9 Association (now known as the Ontario East Region) by the founding members of our Auxiliary.  Mrs. Ruest thanked Mrs. Greffe for this presentation, and indicated that our Centre has made a contribution to the HAAO to help mark their centennial celebrations.

Educational Session / Board Development – Ms. Joelle Régnier, Nurse Practitioner and Mr. Craig Smith, Social Worker, both with the Local Interdisciplinary Networked Care (LINC) Project, explained their role in the delivery of Long-term Care.  Their expertise is being shared evenly with the Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge.  The Social Work component focuses on proactive care of the residents in collaboration with the family.  The Nurse Practitioner, in consultation with the Family Physician, helps avoid unnecessary Emergency Department visits by residents, resulting in fewer admissions to acute care.  Dr. Patel indicated that educational sessions will be provided to staff, outlining what has been learned since the inception of the Project.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Eight Slow-paced Rehabilitation Beds - A recent newspaper article discussed the elective surgeries cancelled at Cornwall Community Hospital due to the overflow of LTC/ALC patients.  The Board of Directors was hopeful that the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) would soon approve the funding of these eight beds in order to alleviate the over bedding crisis in acute care.

Letter from President of Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario (HAAO) – This letter explained that Ms. Juliette Payette of our Centre’s Auxiliary has been elected Chairman of the Ontario East Region of the HAAO.
